Political Culture of Russia Essay Example for Free

Political Culture of Russia Essay The idea of Russian political culture and by augmentation its legislative issues has been formed and shaped over the earlier hundreds of years. While we can in no way, shape or form quality its whole political culture to a solitary occasion or timeframe, we likewise can’t point to a timespan, state the Soviet time, and draw our impression of Russia’s political culture from that by itself. That being stated, the authoritarian idea of the Soviet State is by incomplete methods inferable from Marxist-Leninist ways of thinking. The idea of Russian political culture was (and still is in numerous respects) tyrant. All through Russia’s history there has been a tyrant mentality in how the nation ought to be dominated. The state was consistently there, the state was behind constrained modernization strategies from Peter the Great through Joseph Stalin, and today Vladimir Putin. Russia for the enormous piece of its history been similarly as tremendous as it is today. Its sheer size requires a brought together capacity to hold territorial self-governance down. Each nation that followed or still follows Marxist teaching did (does as such) with various kinds of Marxism, none of which are actually and altogether what Karl imagined. China and Russia were rivals in a few approach regions all through the twentieth century. A similar polarity can be seen among China and its littler (socialist) Southeastern Asian neighbors, for example, Cambodia and Vietnam. Socialist nations were incompletely dictator in view of M arxism. The idea of building up and propagating an order economy requested dictatorship. While China has squirmed out of a significant number of the duties and entanglements of running an order economy by building up showcase driven monetary change, it stays dictator. This represents while the key segments of Marxism are surrendered, the framework and its entertainers keep on getting a handle on to control as it looks to adjust and coordinate itself into the world framework. This is counter to past endeavors to set up an equal world framework behind Soviet belief system. Primary concern: the main way a Communist framework can take proceeded with hold and root itself into the political framework is through tyranny. Also the pretense under which huge numbers of the Soviet Republics were brought into the overlay and behind the Iron Curtain. These weren’t unconstrained Communist Revolutions toppling a few governments around the globe; it was the Russian’s moving in the wake of havi ng kicked the Germans out and acting doll to their new manikins. On the off chance that it were populist bolster that kept Communist governments in power far and wide one would not see states endeavors to handicap opportunities of the press, of get together, and of religion. Current Communist governments dread a tricky incline, and maybe as it should be, the place an inch of social opportunity given would imitate Mikhail Gorbachev’s changes in the late 1980’s and lead to a possible breakdown. Russia’s Political culture is more tyrant than a great deal of nations around the globe, however today it is a working semi majority rule government with tyrant suggestions. This demonstrates in the correct conditions, Russian’s can and will expose themselves to semi-dictator rule. Under different conditions, for example, the circumstance in the 1990’s that followed the breakdown of the Soviet framework, it’s a marvel that dictatorship didn’t return power. Putin despite everything administers with authenticity at the front of his brain, and hasn’t suspended the constitution or managed by pronouncement. Genuine majority rules system can and will in the end be acknowledged, however practically this is just concei vable through generational substitution and hard, slow change. The privatization procedure can be seen with much legitimate analysis, it didn’t consider Russians absence of comprehension of the West’s meaning of ‘rational financial behavior’, nor did it locate a glad center ground between the two boundaries of order economy and wild-west free enterprise. What it did was change the principles of the game being played. We can blame the wide stun treatment technique for any number of deficiencies in the monetary approach in the Russian weapons store, yet it achieved one staggeringly progressively significant objective. It changed the principles of the game. Individuals who knew the principles (or knew which new guidelines were coming), mobsters, party authorities, and Western premiums, jumped upon the chance to bring in cash hand over clench hand. This is as yet an immeasurably improved situation rather than continuous financial change, with the state covetously clutching the â€Å"commanding heights† of the economy, and leaving the unrewarding divisions open for private venture and advancement. The vast lion's share of the Russian individuals didn’t have a strong handle on private property, or offering one of two dairy animals to purchase a bull, or how to ‘invest’ with these vouchers. The sharks gobbled them up in the extraordinarily free market. This is a point that was fundamental for the help of genuine private enterprise and in the long run popular government in Russia. How can one impart in its populace the ideas that go connected at the hip with free enterprise? My answer is compel them to adjust to a changed situation. Continuous change would’ve sustained for a more extended time the stagnation and poor cost-the board of the Soviet time frame. A forceful and prompt changing of the earth started the agonizing ingraining of entrepreneur esteems into the people and government. After the residue cleared and another centuries revealed, Vladimir Putin acquired another Russia, with new issues, and a semi-directed but industrialist framework. I likewise dismiss the thought that a stake in an organization means a specific degree of responsibility and profitability related with it. I can consider just in my own history various supervisors with a little degree of pledge to the organization, they weren’t there to work or oversee, they were there to possess. That being said I’ve likewise encountered a few hands-on proprietors, who adjuste d the procedures of a few workers exactly as they would prefer. My other derivation originates from informal investors on the Stock Market. Individuals with no personal stake in an organization putting their cash up in light of the fact that they think the stock will go up, not really in light of the fact that they have confidence in the item. One doesn’t need a stake in an organization to boost accomplishment inside it, it sure aides, however it isn't required and wouldn’t have made the Russian progress any less excruciating. The times of publicity had truly influenced some 10% of the populace and they were the ones who tumbled off the bluff when the framework changed. Russia in the 1990’s was terrible, however it was nothing contrasted with the huge starvations that prompted the passings of a huge number of Russians, or the Great Depression. Numerous Russian’s who got tied up with the Soviet belief system were abandoned, yet others secured positions, and others brought in pain free income. 1991 was a tempestuous time in Russia, the breakdown of the framework left incalculable inquiries unans wered about what the Russian state and its business segment would look like after the residue settled. I see positively no chance, no framework, no way that could’ve intervened such a radical change with negligible monetary uprooting and languishing. We could’ve reduced the blow with a Russian variant of the Marshall Plan, however honestly that was far and away a lot to anticipate from America. We were in a place of triumph following quite a while of battle, and the possibility of the enormous new markets had American businessmen salivating. The Marshall plan wouldn’t have functioned just as it did in Western Europe on the grounds that the political and monetary culture of Russia was totally different from Western Europe. Immersing a nation with money and advances to manufacture (or revamp on account of Western Europe) present day framework was not feasible. A large portion of the thinking behind the Marshall Plan in any case was to develop private enterprise, and battle the spread of socialism. What is to be picked up from a US strategy of propping up our old adversary? This is particularly obvious when there was such a lot of cash to be made through misuse. Russia in the 1990’s was actually was America wanted it to be, smug. The Russian horde assumed a significant job in blocking genuine market changes; they delighted in the post-breakdown tumult and arrange d the significant bit of the Russian economy that is still today led underground, and all the more critically, liberated from charge income. While this rate has diminished impressively, it despite everything represents almost a twofold digit gap in monetary trades. Alongside the crowd, the Communist Party realized what would occur and arranged as needs be. They gobbled up the beneficial divisions of the economy for pennies on the dollar and turned out to be astoundingly well off. The two gatherings filled in as significant hindrances in the way of genuine change, and genuine popular government for Russia. The truth of the matter is that the changes proposed were free-advertise on a basic level and not free-showcase practically speaking. Favors, endowments, inside data, and having capital (also the information on the most proficient method to utilize it) made for a terribly inclined monetary playing field in Russia. Much the same as water, the cash streamed down the tilt and under the control of elites and future oligarchs, leaving genuine strategy and progress for later pioneers and ages to grapple with. To cite Winston Churchill, â€Å"Democracy is the most exceedingly terrible type of government, aside from each one of those different structures that have been attempted from time to time.† Western style vote based system is in no way, shape or form the zenith of human accomplishment, it is anyway a vital condition to giving the premise to equity of chance, rule of law, and political portrayal. Saying this doesn't imply that that there is no an incentive in the Russian way, or that it is naturally off-base. Request only isn’t as significant (as indicated by the West) when one holds the previously mentioned cultural qualities. Request works for R

Market Environment Analysis Brief analysis of the market English football, and the FA Premier League (FAPL) in particular, is today a bigger business than it has ever been, generating record revenues both within its stadia and through the rising value of its broadcast rights. The game is on TV in more countries than ever before and watched by an increasing number of passionate fans all around the world. Despite the rising cost of attendance, football grounds are as full as they have ever been and FAPL matchday revenues have doubled in just eight years. But broadcast rights fees are expected soon to account for a majority share of income and younger consumers appear not to be inheriting the club ties that older fans were born into. Mintels research shows that footballs appeal to brands lies in its continued ability to reach mass mainstream audiences rather than in the value of its core audience, which is largely apathetic towards sponsors and their products (over half of fans claim not to pay attentio n to who sponsors what, while just 16% say the brand that sponsors their club matters to them). Football is well insulated against recession by the multi-year nature of its media and commercial agreements and by the fact that up to half of all seats are paid for before a ball is kicked through season ticket sales. However, the experience of the 1980s recession (where between 1978 and 1984 average attendances in the top flight collapsed from over 28,000 to under 19,000) shows that attendance is vulnerable in a downturn, so that matchday revenues in the 2009/10 season could be at risk. Barclays Premier League Roles and Objectives The mission of the Premier League is to effectively Manage, continually improve and be regarded as the worlds best league football competition and in this way Generate increased commercial value, using the resulting revenues to further enhance competitions and strengthen the long-term future of the Premier League and its clubs. BNET Business Dictionary a theoretically informed understanding of the environment in which an organisation is operating, together with an understanding of the organisations interaction with its environment in order to improve organisational efficiency and effectiveness by increasing the organisations capacity to deploy and redeploy its resources intelligently. Professor Les Worrall, Wolverhampton Business School The market environment comprises a combination of the Barclays Premier League industry itself and the wider macro environment in which Manchester United F.C. operates. In addition, it highlights the market environments and critic success factors. The unique resources of Manchester U nited and the core competences of the Club are outlined in the analysis described below. SWOT analysis In order to conduct a comprehensive market environment analysis and evaluate the conditions in the market environment that Manchester United F.C. occupies, a brief introduction of the Barclays Premier League and Manchester United F.C., summarizing the key aspects in a SWOT analysis Which will be the first step towards implementing a range of analytical tools (fig.1) The SWOT Analysis is the most popular instrument utilized in strategic planning and organizational problem solving. PEST analysis The purpose of the PEST analysis below is to briefly outline the political and legal, economic, sociocultural and technological issues together with their implications on the performance of The Club, hence describing the external environment within Manchester United operates (fig 2) Porters four corners analysis The four corners analysis is a useful tool for analysing compe titors as it emphasises that the objective of competitive analysis should always be on generating insights into the future. In this case the model is used to develop a profile of the likely strategy changes a competitor might make and how successful it might be and determine competitors probable reaction to the range of industry shifts and environmental changes that may occur (Fig. 3) Quite straightforward, the competitors future strategy stems from the competitors motivation to exceed or overperform another Club and sets a variety of objectives pr actions to be completed with the implementation of their prospective strategy. However, these objectives should reflect on the Clubs capabilities as well as the skills of the individual players and staff at senior management level. Here it is essential to develop a clear assumption on what creates value for a specific team as well as what are the relationships and networks the respective business has developed. For instance, Manchester United is one of the most successful teams in the history of football resulting in average attendance higher than any other team in the UK and extremely high brand consciousness (fig. 4). This means that together with the Clubs financial stability, strength of the senior management team and proven ability to serve a variety of channels Manchester United PLC is well on the way of creating and implementing in a sustainable way a winning strategy. Value chain analysis Further to the description above, value chain analysis is based on the principle that organisations exist to create value for their customers. Furtermore it is a comprehensive technique for analysing an organisations source of competitive advantage. In the analysis, the organisations activities are divided into separate sets of activities that add value. The organisation can more effectively evaluate its internal capabilities by identifying and examining each of these activities. Each value adding activity is co nsidered to be a source of competitive advantage. For Manchester United these include Manchester United Football Club, Manchester United Catering (Agency Company), and Manchester United Interactive, the joint venture with Manchester United PLC, Granada, and British Sky Broadcasting, that operates MUTV. These are run on the basis of primary and support activities, as Primary activities are those that physically create a product, as well as market the product, deliver the product to the customer and provide after-sales support and Support activities are those that facilitate the primary activities. Crucial for the organisation is the process of identifying the activities that are critical to customers satisfaction and market success, such as creating competitiove advantage in competitions, hence the ticket sales and merchandising activity regarded to the process. Strategic fit Analysis The foremost field of research that is required to be taken into account is the whole new product development and research concerning Manchester Uniteds existing product selection. This is required to be examined principally as if Manchester United requires guaranteeing that they are doing well in their present market prior to going into a new market. At first, Manchester United will require investigating into their existing product selection, however, with such broad variety of products, it is vital for Manchester United to assess which of their products are perforating well in the market. Conclusion Manchester United is in a very competitive spot at present Currently ranked as the richest and most valuable club in any sport, with an estimated value of around ÂÂ £1.136billion. It has the highest average attendance than any other team in English football and receives a large amount of funds through sponsorships and agreements (merchandising). Nonetheless the Club requires to be cautious that they are not getting self-satisfied and that they are focusing on the market, and the requirements of their clients and followers. By implementing the research into their markets, it will allow them to build up products for the clients, which will bring about sustained support from the fans and success. Dess G Miller A. It is the newest of the states (it joined the union in 1959) and it is the only U.S. state that is an island archipelago. Hawaii is located in the Pacific Ocean to the southwest of the continental U.S., southeast of Japan and northeast of Australia. Hawaii is known for its tropical climate, unique topography, and natural environment, as well as its multicultural population. Ten Geographic Facts About Hawaii Hawaii has been continuously inhabited since about 300 B.C.E. according to archeological records. It is believed that the earliest inhabitants of the islands were Polynesian settlers from the Marquesas Islands. Later settlers may have also migrated to the islands from Tahiti and introduced some of the ancient cultural practices of the region; however, there is a  debate about the early history of the islands. The British explorer Captain James Cook made the first recorded European contact with the islands in 1778. In 1779, Cook made his second visit to the islands and later published several books and reports on his experiences on the islands. As a result, many European explorers and traders began to visit the islands and they brought new diseases which killed a large portion of the islands population.Throughout the 1780s and into the 1790s, Hawaii experienced civil unrest as its chiefs fought for power over the area. In 1810, all of the islands that were inhabited became governed u nder a single ruler, King Kamehameha the Great and he established the House of Kamehameha which lasted until 1872 when Kamehameha V died.Following the death of Kamehameha V, a popular election led to Lunalilo controlling the islands because Kamehameha V had no heir. In 1873, Lunalilo died, also without an heir, and in 1874 after some political and social instability, governance of the islands went to the House of Kalakaua. In 1887 Kalakaua signed the Constitution of the Kingdom of Hawaii which took away much of his power. Following his death in 1891 his sister, Liliuokalani took the throne and in 1893 she attempted to create a new constitution. In 1893 a portion of Hawaiis foreign population formed a Committee of Safety and attempted to overthrow the Kingdom of Hawaii. In January of that year, Queen Liliuokalani was overthrown and the Committee of Safety created a provisional government. On July 4, 1894, the Provisional Government of Hawaii ended and the Republic of Hawaii was create d which lasted until 1898. In that year Hawaii was annexed by the U.S. and it became the Territory of Hawaii which lasted until March 1959 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Hawaii Admission Act. Hawaii then became the 50th U.S. state on August 21, 1959.The islands of Hawaii are located about 2,000 miles (3,200 km) southwest of the continental U.S. It is the southernmost state of the U.S. Hawaii is an archipelago made up of eight main islands, seven of which are inhabited. The largest island by area is the island of Hawaii, also known as the Big Island, while the largest by population is Oahu. The other main islands of Hawaii are Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Kauai, and Niihau. Kahoolawe is the eighth island and it is uninhabited. The Hawaiian Islands were formed by undersea volcanic activity from what is known as a hotspot. As the Earths tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean moved over millions of years, the hotspot remained stationary creating new islands in the chain. As a resu lt of the hotspot, all of the islands were once volcanic, today, however, only the Big Island is active because it is located the closest to the hotspot. The oldest of the main islands is Kauai and it is located the farthest from the hotspot. A new island, called the Loihi Seamount, is also forming off the south coast of the Big Island. In addition to the main islands of Hawaii, there are also more than 100 small rocky islets that are a part of Hawaii. The topography of Hawaii varies based on the islands, but most of them have mountain ranges along with coastal plains. Kauai, for instance, has rugged mountains that go right up to its coast, while Oahu is divided by mountain ranges and also has flatter areas.Since Hawaii is located in the tropics, its climate is mild and summer highs are usually in the upper 80s (31ËšC) and winters are in the low 80s (28ËšC). There are also wet and dry seasons on the islands and the local climate on each island varies based on ones position in rel ation to the mountain ranges. Windward sides are typically wetter, while leeward sides are sunnier. Kauai has the second highest average rainfall on Earth.Because of Hawaiis isolation and tropical climate, it is very biodiverse and there are many endemic plants and animals on the islands. Many of these species are engendered and Hawaii has the highest number of endangered species in the U.S. To learn more about Hawaii, visit the states official website.References Infoplease.com. Life is about exploring and improving on those. Growth never ends. It is expanding our minds and attitudes to make life happy and peaceful. My development depends what I do to accomplish my life goals. My carrier path will depend on how I can grow and develop in my field and management capabilities. I like to think I have many strengths. After review of my character/ personality test, I can see what they are. I am a task-oriented leader, which drives me to finish a project. I have a strong individual work ethic, which allows me to be responsible and not rely on others. I am good at building and leading a team. I am not power oriented, so I am not manipulative and scheming. My preferred power types include collaborating, compromising, legitimate. This means I know that a person does not necessarily need to be in management to be a vital employee. I prefer to use collaborating, compromising, and accommodating techniques when dealing with conflict. I also have a strong ability to provide good feedback. My individual performance style test revealed that I am conscientious, Open to experience, extravert. My Myers-Briggs Type indicator results said that I am extrovert, intuitive, felling and perceptive. I have a high locus of control which means I feel that I can control the situation I am in with my actions and feelings. I have a moderate self-esteem level. My motivations are strong driven with growth, relatedness and existence needs. I have a high standard if ethics. Though all that may make me to sound like the perfect person, I am far from there. My leadership style lacks concern for people. I can finish a project, but might offend some people on the way. I have a hard time dealing in a team because I rely so much on myself. Management typically uses reward and coercive power, which I do not value highly. I did not get good scores when it comes to using competing and avoidance skills with conflict. I have poor listening skills and often wait to long to give feedback. I have a low emotional stability. I also have a high amount of neediness, which can me extremely unsatisfied. I found several resources to improve on my weakness while enhancing my strengths. The four resources are Celebration of Discipline, Tools for Teams: Building Effective Teams in the Workplace, Bridges Not Walls: A book about Interpersonal Communication, and The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership Follow Them And People Will Follow You. It has been said that it takes twenty-eight days to develop a habit, I have decided to pace my self a month for developing each new technique I have researc hed and determined that these three resources can help find the growth I am looking for. Celebration of Discipline by Richard F. Foster is a book about the path to spiritual growth. This book will help me train myself to be emotionally stronger while reaffirming my ethics and self-esteem. The book should help me find a source of fulfillment for some of my needs as well as increase my concern for others. This is the first resource I choose for my development because I believe my spiritual growth affects all aspects of my life, not just career and workplace. .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 , .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .postImageUrl , .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 , .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894:hover , .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894:visited , .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894:active { border:0!important; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894:active , .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894 .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u48e325fcc255d529665fc437e739d894:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Phillip Korkis EssayIn looking for ways to strength my team participation skills, a resource that I have already used came to mind. Tools for Teams: Building Effective Teams in the Workplace was the book for my first class at University of Phoenix. The course I took focused on team building. If I could use what I have already applied in my academic life, then I can improve on my lacking team skills. I remember this book to have great insight to improve the quality and effectiveness of dealing with team. The next resource Bridges Not Walls: A Book about Interpersonal Communication is a book my wife recommended. It was a textbook she used in college communications course. The book outline ways to better communicate with other. The book has an emphasis in the listening aspect, and understanding body language. This book also shows the best ways to handle different kinds of conflicts. Once again, I think resource will help not only with workplace situations but also in all aspects of life situations. The last resource is The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership Follow Them And People Will Follow You by John C. Maxwell. This book should help me with my overall management skills. This book can help me learn how to better deal with using reward and coercive power.I believe this resource rounds my development plan. These four resource applied slowing, yet completely will help me improve on my strengths and weaknesses. These should enhance not only my work style, but also my lifestyle. Improvement is most importantly a day-by-day, minute-by-minute to become more than we were, and more than we are. The results can be seen in our actions and attitude. ReferenceFoster, Richard J. Middle Class Morality Essays - Ibsen Family, A Dolls House

Middle Class Morality MIDDLE CLASS MORALITY Values and morals of the Victorian era are quite different than those that our society upholds today. The satirical plays, A Dolls House by Henrik Ibsen, and Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, examine the problems with certain beliefs held by the people, both men and women, of the Victorian age. Furthermore, the people in general didnt not just hold certain morals, but the different classes in the Victorian society also held their own beliefs on moral code. Of which, the middle class beliefs are most closely examined in both plays. Men and women were expected by others in Victorian society to uphold certain moral behaviors. These expectations caused many problems for the individual that upheld them by limiting their behavior, and overshadowing how the person really thinks he or she should act or what he or she really believes. Men in the Victorian era were anticipated by women and other men to do certain things that would qualify them to be an accomplished masculine figure. The first requirement is that the man must support and protect his woman. In A Dolls House Torvald, Noras husband, most definitely feels his obligation to protect his wife, whether she likes it or not. Do you know, Nora, I have often wished that you might be threatened by some great danger, so that I might risk my lifes blood, and everything, for your sake(Ibsen 58). Torvald hopes that one day he will be able to show his manly and virtuous side by protecting his wife, most likely so he will be praised for it. Torvald also feels that his woman must be protected because she most definitely cannot fend for herself. Aha! so my obstinate little woman is obliged to get someone to come to her rescue? (Ibsen 27). This is the exact, narrow-minded view many Victorian men displayed. Also, in Pygmalion men have the obligation to protect women. This time the women are seen expecting the man to care for them, like in Freddys case. You really are very helpless, Freddy. Go again; and dont come back until you have found a cab(Shaw 574). Because Freddy is a male, he is expected by his mother and sister to find a cab for them in the rain when there are none in sight. Even on the streets men will defend women who they dont even know. What business is it of yours? You mind your own affairs....Nice thing a girl cant shelter from the rain without being insulted,(Shaw 576). Bystanders noticing the flower girl is upset by the note taker, they defend her, if she were a man they would have expected her to fend for herself. The second requirement that makes a man a man in Victorian times is his perfect family. There they are!...Look at them, Christine! Arent they darlings?(Ibsen 19). Nora is showing off her perfect little children to her friend Mrs. Linde. Yes, take a good look at her. I think she is worth looking at. Isnt she charming, Mrs. Linde?(Ibsen 53). Torvald is now showing off his prize trophy, his wife, as if Mrs. Linde really cares. With a perfect wife and children Torvald can be seen as a true hard-working, good man. Yet, many times these seemingly good values are flawed underneath. There are many problems with these values imposed on men in Victorian times. In the case of protecting his woman, we see Torvalds true colors in the end of the play after he discovers Noras criminal act. All these eight years-she who was my joy and pride-a hypocrite, a liar-worse, worse-a criminal! I ought to have suspected that something of the sort would happen(Ibsen 59-60). Torvald himself is really the hypocrite, wasnt he longing for something to protect his wife against? Now that the time is come he blames her for burdening him to have to make the situation right. Nora has real guts, guts more than her overbearing husband, in that she never has really needed his help, she, in fact, has helped him a great deal and has never asked to be glorified for it, as her husband does. And poor Freddy, he simply followed his mothers orders unquestioning. When he returns with

Hemingways essays

Hemingways essays Novel begins with a description of an Italian landscape and troops that regularly pass while fighting is taking place in the mountain regions. It continues through landscape and settles in the mess tent where Frederic Henry, the narrator and protagonist, is eating and drinking wine with other Italian officers and talking to the priest. Frederic Henry is an American expatriate who has become a lieutenant in the medical corps of the Italian army. His roommate, lieutenant Rinaldi, is also his closest friend and coworker in the medical division. Rinaldi says that he is in love with a British woman named Catherine Barkley and takes Frederic to meet Miss Barkley, where she and Frederic make an instant connection. The next evening, he calls her for a walk, which is the beginning of a relationship that will progress very quickly. In the beginning Catherine is not sure about her feelings, but Frederick expresses his love deeply despite uncertainty about his true feelings. However, he shows ma ny signs that he prefers her company, and as time goes by, the relationship becomes closer and stronger until they completely fall in love. Soon after that, Frederic is required to go to the offensive, which takes him away from Catherine. On his way there, Frederic talked with many Italian soldiers who, just like him, have a general lack of patriotism. While Italian troops wait at their post, shelling occurs, but Frederic and other ambulance drivers are eating dinner and drinking wine. Suddenly, as they eat, their post is hit and their tent explodes. Frederic at first is not certain if he has survived, but then he recognizes that he is alive and wounded and that he cant help his friends. He has leg and head wounds and he is take to the field hospital with other wounded soldiers. Rinaldi visits him at the hospital, brings him a bottle of cognac and tells him that the troops successfully crossed the river and that Frederic may receive the ...

Should the United States open its doors to more (or fewer) immigrants Essay

Should the United States open its doors to more (or fewer) immigrants - Essay Example This is where all people aspire to live in and make a living. It is through such thoughts of making it big in the United States that lead to many people trying to relocate there. However, their means of getting into the country might not be through the right or legal channels. They, thus, end up being caught by immigration officials because of trying to sneak into the country. Deportation is followed immediately they are found out with nothing and sometimes, they might serve a jail sentence. The United States should not open its doors to immigrants and the reasons for this are clearly discussed by reviewing the effects of allowing a lot of immigrants into the country. The flooding of immigrants into American soil has had very many effects. There are positive, but there are also negative effects. Those in favour of America closing down its borders to immigrants argue that the negative things outweigh the positive. This school of thought could be true. The attitude that has brought this on cannot be blamed entirely on stereotyping among those against it. It is a known fact that the different cultures that cross the border into American soil bring a difference into the land (Bromwell, p. 32). This difference most of the times is not always positive. An example is the Muslim religion. This religion does not go down well with some of the American people. The religion is usually affiliated with violence. Protests and demonstrations have been carried out to ensure the religion does not spread more than it already has. Over the past decade, Americans have allowed immigrants to be citizens of their country. This means that more and more of the original inhabitants of the land are growing extinct with each passing year. This should not be the case. Native Americans, the original inhabitants of America, are being considered immigrants (Bromwell, p. 45). This is due to their small number and dying culture. Once again, the factor

Nursing - Assignment Example Alternatively, the implementation plan must fit in the expected standard that takes care of smooth technological integration, institutional organizational compatibility, transition management, flexibility, knowledge, and software solution. Assessing the status of the application of the EMR at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital for its relevance in terms of learning outcomes, there are several missing items for a standard model. On one hand, the time used to put together the EMR design is just six months which could implicate the rest of the system implementation. On the other hand, internal expertise was entirely applied in the completion which poses questions on the competitiveness of the final product. It could have taken a better direction if an assessment was conducted to reveal cost benefit analysis position interrogating outsourcing alternatives. In this respect, only EMR software is reported to have involved a vendor from outside the hospital, with unclear role and connection o the set team. Internal design issues however may have prompted the use of internal resources and expertise to the advantage of the institution. Relevance and completeness can therefore be assessed on the generation of resources and competen ce applied amid successes elsewhere in the generation of the best possible product. Apparently, the most talked about constraint in any information system such as EMR involves financial inadequacy by the implementing institution. Once the funding obstacle is overcome at some level however, the most potent challenge is usually the integration into the existing system as well as the acceptability with which the human resource adopts the new system (Blumenthal and Glaser, 2007). At Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital, the system challenge of implementation and possible resistance of the sudden change is not highlighted. Whereas approval or rejection may not necessarily be a measure of

Dance Essay Essay Example for Free

Dance Essay Essay Chosen to look at the productions Cell Block Tango from Chicago and Rosas Danst Rosas by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. I wanted to compare these two dance pieces, as I felt the concept behind them, was very similar. Both pieces represent strong female roles, demonstrated by movement and strong characters. In Chicago, the fosse inspired production, choreographed by Rob Marshall, looked at the political issue of women trying to escape their stereotypical role as the domestic care giver in attempt to be individualists. Whereas in Rosas Danst Rosas, choreographed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaecher, her choreography reflects back on feminist issues that females in society faced. Both dance pieces portrayed these issues through movement, in very different ways. Bob Fosse was the original choreographer for Chicago, however, Rob Marshall adapted the Fosse choreography to his interpretation for the film in 2002. Bob Fosse was born in Chicago, Illinois, 1927 and died in 1987. His life was dedicated to dance, he is acknowledged around the world for his outstanding, unique style. He was an American, actor, dancer, director, screen writer and film editor. At a young age he teamed up with another young dancer, Charles Grass, and began a collaboration called ‘The Riff Brothers. ’ Fosse then went on to direct many productions, for example, Sweet Charity, Billion Dollar Baby, dancin, and Chicago. Chicago was originally from a 1926 play by the reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, she bases her plays on actual criminals and crimes she reported on. It was then, as said above, originally choreographed by Bob Fosse, his style is strongly identified throughout the production. In 1996 Chicago holds the record for the longest running Broadway revival. In 2002 the Academy-award winning film version of the musical was released, directed by Rob Marshall. Rob Marshall is an American theatre director, film director and choreographer. Marshall was born in Madison, Wisconsin and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Carnegie Mellon University where he was trained in jazz and ballet. Chicago is about two women who go to prison as they have called their partners, who find themselves awaiting their trails and having the same passion, to be a singer and fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows. I have chosen to specifically research one of the routines from Chicago, which is Cell Block Tango, the dance is about six woman whom have killed their partners, they all have separate parts in the dance, which portray the hatred and re-enactment of when they killed them and why. I felt this was very effective as it signifies the power of woman, and their independence. They wanted to show the audience that if they were in their position they would of done the same. I noticed they use a lot of gestures that indicate power, for example when they are stomping. The dance is also very seductive, empowering over men.

Polyethylene and Polyterephthalate are Outdated Essay -- Polymer PET P

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Outdated: Is the World Ready for a New Plastic? Abstract: This paper explains the structure of polymer poly(ethylene terephthalate) also known as PET. It states the properties of the plastic as well recycling methods. My goal was to find out what makes PET the number one plastic, both in consumption as well as the most recycled. I also searched for new polymers that are being created by scientists and compare them to PET to see if there was a plastic out there that is better for the environment. I found a few alternatives that would be able to replace PET but aren’t being used. I also found a fire-proof polymer called BHDB which can replace the previously used polymer. Poly(ethylene terephthalate), a plastic found in soda bottles, peanut butter jars, and even pillow and sleeping bag filling [1], is the most used and recycled plastic. As Americans we use about 2.5 million plastic bottles per hour. Most of this plastic that we are using, though, ends up not only in land fields but in oceans and other undesirable places, only a small portion of it is actually recycled. Plastic are long chains of polymeric molecules. Unlike paper or other compounds, plastics are commonly used for their qualities such as durability weight, processibility, cost, corrosion, and impact resistance. 2 The basic composition of polymers includes oil, coal and natural gas though recently they have been more petroleum-based[1]. About 140 million tons per year are produced and a lot of that ends up as waste in land fields [1]. There are many characteristics PET has that contribute to the popularity of this polymer. Among those characteristics are lightweight, low density, low cost, mechanical toughness, dura... ...e motivated and helping me make my paper the best it can be. Ellyday by Helen Oyeyemi

Ellyday is about two siblings, Sophie and Elly. The story takes place in Elly’s bedroom one cold Sunday morning, four days before Christmas. Sophie walked into Elly’s bedroom, because she was worried about her sister Elly, who is really skinny and she wanted to talk with her. While Sophie tried to figure out, how to ask Elly to pull her jumper up, Elly wanted to listen to a CD. Elly wouldn’t pull her jumper up and said to Sophie that she was only going to get angry. Then they discussed Elly’s weight and appearance and Elly said that she thought Sophie’s problem is in fact, that Elly is now as skinny as Sophie. After that Elly started to cry hideous and sank to the floor. Sophie told Elly that she can’t see properly how she can think it’s worth it, but Elly just answered that Sophie didn’t really care and that she saw it happening. Sophie also told Elly that she was actually sick and needed help and that it would be wise to talk t o someone. At this moment Elly listened to her sister and asked her when it’s okay to die.Sophie got shocked and realized that she didn’t know this person anymore. Elly elaborate on her question about if it was okay to die before you’ve ever kissed a boy, or ever been loved, or anything like that. While Sophie was going to explain that it was not okay to die, she just stopped speaking and stared brimming overwhelmed, because Elly had pulled up her jumper. Sophie and Elly are teenagers and I think that Sophie is the oldest of them. Elly has an eating disorder and is very skinny and looks like a scarecrow. She has fluffy brown hair and leaking, dead brown eyes. She’s mostly a silent girl, but when Sophie talks directly about Elly’s thinness, she goes into self-defense. Elly had no control over her words and stumble hesitates over every word that came out from her mouth. It’s painful for Elly to speak clearly and rounded, without a slur. She had pale skin tone and shaking hands due to her thinness. She wears baggy clothes and stuff like that so people can’t see how thin she is. Elly was fat before and has a serious psychological problem. She doesn’t feel well inside and asks questions like how it’s okay to die and when it will be a shame. It seems like that Elly feels she’s failed her sister, because she said to Sophie that she had seen what was happening with Elly and that she didn’t care. Elly struggled to stand up, talk and things like that. She’s very weak but unshakable, and wouldn’t pull her jumper up for her sister. But in the end of the story Sophie gets a surprise. Sophie is the big sister, and she feels a responsibility over Elly. She’s very worried about Elly but also very straightforward in the language. She forced herself to sound irritable over Elly, as she had so many times before when they were younger. She threatened to stop speaking to Elly if she didn ’t do what Sophie said. Sophie behaves like a bossy kind, like who always told Elly what to do, to protect her little sister. I don’t like the end of the story; because we don’t know what happened after Elly pulled her jumper up. We don’t know h ow Sophie reacted and why Elly had talked about when it was okay to die. I would do everything in my power to prevent anything from happening to my friends. Weather it was drugs, drinking, eating disorders or over eating. I wouldn’t leave them. What are friends for? Friendship for me isn’t just about having fun. It’s about taking the good and bad with each other. If I were a teenager I would probably get advice from some older wiser person who is more experienced in life. From there I would hope the best for them and let them know they have my support if they need me, because sometimes it’s not about to tell them what to do and such it’s more about support. Of course you have to t ell them that what they’re doing isn’t good and helping, but not being bossy. Keep in mind they didn’t always do this to themselves by no reason, so figure out the reason and then help them through it.

Jean Jacques Rousseau And The Declaration Of Independence...

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was an Enlightenment thinker during the eighteenth century and is most noted for his work The Social Contract. The Social Contract published in 1762 and is a philosophical document that expresses the ideas of popular sovereignty. Popular Sovereignty is a form of government in which â€Å"the doctrine that sovereign power is vested in the people and that those chosen to govern, as trustees of such power, must exercise it in conformity with the general will.† This is basically a fancy way of saying that the people have the power of authority of their government and the people should decide how they are governed. Like The Social Contract, the Declaration of Independence is a document that sets out to explain the relationship between a government and its people based on an an understanding of that relationship. The Declaration of Independence was composed by Thomas Jefferson in 1766, and shares many of the same ideals as The Social Contract. The Social Contra ct and the Declaration of Independence are more similar than different because Jean-Jacques Rousseau influenced John Locke, whose Social Contract Theories directly influenced Thomas Jefferson during the writing of the Declaration of Independence. The First example of how The Social Contract is more similar than different to The Declaration of Independence is how both documents express the responsibility of liberalism to the people.
